I’m Jeni, and I would like to welcome you to Jeni Tutoring Services! I personally have over 20 years-experience in teaching EFL (English as a Foreign Language) in post-secondary education in a variety of institutions and companies across the United States and Germany.
Jeni is located in the United States – specifically in Phoenix, Arizona, in the beautiful Sonoran Desert of the American Southwest.
The Philosophy Behind Jeni Tutoring Services
Formal Education Institutional Failure
While I absolutely loved teaching in a formal educational setting, I realized that a traditional classroom cannot be all things to all people, and this is especially true at around the fourth semester mark which is the traditional marker for achieving an Intermediate Language Learner status.
Which is great….but…um…how do you get to the advanced level?
That is a great question, which most traditional and non-traditional methods find really tricky to answer.
Unfortunately, American two-year institutions offer very few classes (sometimes very few languages in general) beyond the Intermediate level, while universities tend to pivot to foreign language instruction through literature courses. While this was the preferred method for advancing one’s fluency in the 19th and 20th centuries, it is an antiquated and outdated method.
And dare I say…
it is a really boring way to learn a language. Ick. Snooze fest. No.
Plus, do you really want to sound like you are speaking 19th century English in the middle of Los Angeles?! NO.
Go Your Own Way? No Way.
While modern technology enables a person to study completely on their own, it is very difficult for an Intermediate-level language learner to navigate an uncharted course of study.
Plus, learning in a vacuum can be isolating and discouraging. You would need massive amounts of discipline and motivation to not only study on your own, but also be your own ‘instructor’, and let's face it, this is simply going to eat up more of your precious time even if you want to 'teach yourself'.
The Solution
This is why so many language learners simply give up at this point and never achieve their dreams.
But you have a path forward to achieve the fluency of your dreams!
You, as a modern 21st century world citizen, deserve a more dynamic, modern, authentic way to become fluent in a foreign language that is also painless, and dare I say, an enjoyable experience.
At Jeni Tutoring Services we create a unique plan of study for each language learner based upon their goals, personal situation, interests and needs.
You will only study what you want to study, when you are ready and able to study it.
It’s as simple as that.
Oh, and what if your are working on something really difficult, something that you want to spend more time on than usual?
Or you want to learn all the slang and vocabulary that is never really taught in a formal language setting?
That’s cool by us. You are the boss.
At Jeni Tutoring Services you are in charge of your studies. Period.
In your first session at Jeni Tutoring Services, you have a one-on-one session with Jeni who will talk to you about your foreign language background, your personal interests, your ‘real life’ timetable, your hopes, your dreams, and put it all together and come up with a ‘plan of fluency’ (we don’t call it ‘plan of study’ – that’s too much like school!) that will take you from your own “Point S(tart)” and move you to “Point F(luent)”.
You will then be paired up with your Guide who will literally guide you through your Plan of Fluency.
Forever banish the foreign language vocabulary of “falling behind” or not ‘hitting a goal’ or “failed” at Jeni Tutoring Services.
We don’t measure learning the traditional way.
And neither should you.
